Swimming

Our aquatics provision at BMS is fully inclusive and aims to develop both competent and confident swimmers across a range of areas. We value the importance of being safe in the water whether that be a beginner or an elite swimmer.

By the end of the Junior School our aim is that all pupils are confident and safe in the water and can use a range of strokes effectively. Pupils should be able to swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25m.

Students are taught in a group based on their ability which is assessed at the start of the year and at regular intervals throughout the year. Throughout the Junior school, emphasis is placed on specific techniques and actions that will allow continuity and improved performance in the main strokes and water skills. The students are also taught how to stay safe in the water by developing their personal survival skills.

The more able students will have the opportunity to compete at school level and in the National Championships.
