This term, 50 Year 13 students submitted work for the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), marking the culmination of months of independent research and hard work alongside their A Levels and co-curricular commitments. The EPQ is an opportunity for students to undertake a self-directed project on a topic of their choice, helping them to develop essential skills such as critical thinking, time management, and independent learning. These skills are invaluable for further education and the workplace, making the EPQ a highly respected qualification both by universities and employers. This year’s projects demonstrated the incredible breadth and depth of interests within our Sixth Form and ranged from the effect of fungi colonisation assemblages in salt marsh flora and how these can be used to mitigate climate change, to aviation accidents and an evaluation of the future of aviation safety regulation in the United States. Whether through scientific investigation, artistic creation or source analysis, each one of our students demonstrated outstanding initiative and originality.
