Head of Spanish

Head of Spanish – Full time

Required from September 2024

Bedford Modern School (BMS) is an outstanding HMC independent co-educational day school for students aged 7-18. Our community is a friendly, happy and supportive one and all of the 350 staff members, spanning both teaching and non-teaching roles, help to make BMS a very special place to work.

We are looking to appoint an excellent and inspiring classroom practitioner with well-developed leadership skills to lead our successful Spanish department.

You will lead and coach a team of experienced teachers and will have responsibility for maintaining high standards of teaching and learning, ensuring all students make outstanding progress in Spanish.

The successful applicant must be able to teach Spanish (Key Stages 3,4 and 5) and be able to teach French and/or German (Key Stages 3 and 4). They will be comfortable using the latest technology, have a passion for all languages and an appreciation of the value that comes from being actively involved in departmental trips, events, and enrichment activities.

You will have a genuine interest in delivering positive outcomes for young people and be willing to contribute to the extensive co-curricular life of both the faculty and the wider school.

In return, we can offer an excellent working environment, 35 term-time weeks, a salary range which is competitive and above the national teachers’ pay scales, a generous pension scheme, the option to be part of a medical insurance scheme and generous fee remission (subject to availability and entrance requirements).

We encourage applications from all communities as we want to have a workforce that reflects the social, cultural and ethnic diversity of our students.
