Leading By Example: BMS Students Make Their Mark at Ready2Lead? Conference 09 October 2025

Year 12 students from Bedford Modern School recently took part in the annual Ready2Lead? conference, a dynamic leadership event held in Bedford. Designed to inspire and empower young people, the conference brought together students from across the borough to explore what it means to lead with confidence, compassion, and initiative.

The Ready2Lead? programme aims to uncover the inner leader in every student through a blend of motivational speakers, practical workshops, and collaborative activities. Open to Year 12 students who are eager to grow and make a difference, the event encourages participants to step outside their comfort zones and connect with others who share a passion for positive change.

Our students embraced the opportunity to work in mixed groups with peers from other schools, exchanging ideas and building new friendships. The day was filled with engaging sessions that challenged participants to think critically, communicate effectively, and reflect on their own leadership potential.

A particular highlight this year was listening to an engaging presentation by Ibrahim, a current Year 13 student, who first made his mark at last year’s Ready2Lead? conference with an outstanding pitch. His performance led to his appointment as Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of YouthTV, a youth-led media platform. This year, Ibrahim was invited back to Ready2Lead? as a guest speaker, where he shared his journey and inspired the next cohort of students with his success story of growth, initiative, and leadership.

Ibrahim’s influence continues to grow beyond the conference. He has also been invited to speak at Bedford Giving’s Young Voices Conference on 21 October, to represent the voice of young people in Bedford and encourage others to take bold steps toward making a difference.

As a student who has flourished into a self-assured and articulate leader, Ibrahim exemplifies the values of Bedford Modern School – confidence, ambition and responsibility. His achievements reflect the school’s commitment to nurturing individual potential and empowering students to lead with purpose both within and beyond the classroom.

Ibrahim commented:

I’m incredibly grateful for the amazing opportunities I’ve had recently, stepping into my new role as Chief Financial Officer at YouthTV, securing investment from Europe’s largest company SAP for one of my business ideas, and having the privilege to be a speaker at Ready2Lead? and Bedford Giving events.

None of this would have been possible without the constant encouragement, guidance, and belief from BMS. The support from my teachers and peers over the years I have been here has been instrumental in helping me grow as a person and boost my confidence.

I’m excited to keep learning, sharing, and building on these experiences and I’m so thankful to be part of a school that truly empowers its students to reach their potential.”

Bedford Modern School is proud to support initiatives like Ready2Lead? that align with our ethos of personal development, collaboration, and community impact. The school looks forward to seeing more students take part in future leadership opportunities and continue to make a meaningful difference.
