Junior School Head’s Blog 23 September 2019

What a lovely day we had for the House Team Building afternoon last Thursday.  It was a great event with all the children wearing their house t-shirts for the first time and working together for a common goal.  The field was awash with a multi-coloured array of teamwork!

There is a busy week ahead of us.  All children have an author visit planned, organised by Mrs Mills.  Those in Year 3 and Year 4 will be visited by James Bishop on Tuesday afternoon and Year 5 and Year 6 will be visited by Roman Kemp and Vick Hope on the following day.  This will be a lovely opportunity for the children to hear about their work and may even inspire a few of them to become authors in the future.

On Wednesday 25 September, the children in Year 4 will be visiting St Albans to support their Humanities work for this term.  The curriculum trips are certainly coming thick and fast this term!

This Thursday, 26 September, we will enjoy a cake sale in aid of Macmillan Cancer Care.  This is being organised by the Charities Club and I am sure there will be some delicious temptations on offer.  Please encourage your children to donate generously and enjoy some cake in the process.  In addition, this year I believe that the BMSPA are arranging for parents to also indulge in a little cake on the same day.  This will be held in the Rutherford Building from 3pm until 4.30pm and will allow you to come and take part around pick up if you wish and make a contribution to this very worthy cause.  Please make sure you let them know if you are attending (using the reply option on the email sent out last week) so that they can cater for the correct number of people.

Many of you will have now met our new Junior School Secretary – Mrs Joanne Smith.  She started working with us last week and is getting to know more and more people on a daily basis.  This means that we are back to full strength in the office and should you need to contact Mrs Smith for any reason her email address is j.smith@bedmod.co.uk .  I am sure she will enjoy her time with us and we welcome her with open arms to the BMS family.

Looking forward to next week….. please remember that all children should be wearing winter uniform at school from Monday 30 September, as the autumn chill starts to take hold.

And a plea from Mrs Leigh; she is looking for more people to join the Modern Singers.  It’s a really nice way to meet other parents and staff in a relaxed, fun environment and would be a great way for new Junior School parents to get involved with the school from a slightly different angle.  They meet in the senior school music department every Wednesday evening from 7.30pm until 9pm during term time.  No experience is necessary and you don’t need to be able to read music.  If you would like more information please visit the website here.
