Junior School Head’s Blog 09 March 2020

The Year 3 and 4 Choir did us proud at the Bedfordshire Festival last Saturday morning coming away with first place and the silverware.  They were followed by the Year 5 and 6 Choir producing an outstanding performance which meant they achieved second place in their class with seven choirs competing.  Well done to everyone involved.

Our assembly last week was presented by 4FMG and their theme was Wales.  It always astounds me that the children are able to tell us something that we did not already know during their presentation!  Very well done 4FMG and Mrs Gale.

Last week we were treated to an assembly presented by the Charities Club in preparation for our fundraising events during this week.   The children have been asked to come to school with alternative clothing for their house football / netball events day and make a donation to do so.  I look forward to seeing some imaginative creations in addition to raising lots of money for this great cause.  Very well done indeed to Charities Club and Mrs Westbrook.

During this week there will be several fundraising opportunities to help raise funds for Sport Relief – please refer back to last week’s Blog for further details as there are many different ways of getting involved!

The Young Shakespeare Company will be making their annual visit to inspire Year 6 on Monday morning.  This year they will be sharing A Midsummer Night’s Dream with the children and I hope that they get the usual high level of enjoyment from the experience.

Thursday will see us waving Year 3 off on their trip to Celtic Harmony in Hertfordshire.  They are visiting as part of the Humanities curriculum where they study through from the stone age to the iron age.  As part of the trip they will be absorbed into a reconstructed bronze age village which all sounds very exciting!

You all have received a letter (emailed on 24 February) about our annual House Cross Country event.  This will take place (weather permitting) on the afternoon of Monday 23 March and I hope to see as many of you there as possible to support your children.  The children have been told to come to school in Games kit so there is less opportunity to lose uniform items.

With the teachers busily writing reports on the children’s progress we have just three weeks left before the Easter holiday begins.  These are due to be published during the final week of term.  Please also be aware that as it is the end of a full term, school will finish at 12 noon on Friday 27 March.
