Junior School Head’s Blog 05 November 2019

I do hope you all had a refreshing holiday – it is always a very welcome break in the longest term of the school year.  There is no doubt that in 6 weeks’ time, having glanced at the events planned and accounting for those that are not yet planned, we will still be more than ready for our Christmas break though!

On Saturday 09 November we have our Open Day. Thank you very much to all those children who offered to come into school for either the morning or the afternoon. We had a large number offering to help which was wonderful to see. Notification of the session for which your child is required was sent out immediately before the half term break and I will be meeting with them all on Friday afternoon to explain exactly what they are doing. Please ask them to double check that they have on their very smartest uniform and that their hair is brushed and shoes are polished!  Could all children taking part please also ensure that they are wearing a poppy – these are available from school for a small donation if they do not already have one.

Connected with the theme of poppies we will be holding our annual two minute silence at the end of break-time (11am) on Monday 11 November to commemorate Armistice Day.  Whilst the teachers explain the significance of this to the children in school, I am sure that many of you will also have discussed this at home if you have had the opportunity.  A short time of quiet contemplation can be very powerful and I always find this a very moving event.

Your child’s report grades for this term will be available through the parent portal on Friday.  You will be able to book an appointment to see your child’s form teacher for Thursday 14 November (6pm until 8pm) or Tuesday 19 November (4pm until 6pm).  A letter with details about how to make your appointment will be emailed when the reports are made available.  The consultations will once again take place in the Christopher Fry Hall.  To avoid any difficulties with collecting children on Tuesday 19 November, the ASC will operate as a free facility on this date.  Please be aware that it is preferable if you leave your children in someone else’s care rather than bring them to the Parents’ Evening.  Thank you.

And finally, it gives me great pleasure to inform you that Miss Hayman welcomed a little girl into her family on Saturday 26 October.  She was a very healthy weight of 7lbs 7oz and mother and baby are both doing very well.
