BMS Girls Help Win County Cup for Flitwick Eagles FC 17 June 2021
Year 10 footballers and Flitwick Eagles U15 Girls teammates Lily Galbraith and Tilly Shortland helped win the 2021 U16 Girls County Cup.
The pair have been playing for the Flitwick Eagles U15 Girls for the past few seasons, Lily as a striker and Tilly as a defender. They led an impressive campaign in the tournament, with a convincing 10-1 win against Ampthill Town U16 Girls, and concluding with a 2-1 victory in the final against Luton Town Ladies U16 on 05 June.
Their coach, Ian Noble, commented: “Congratulations to both Lily and Tilly. This is the highest possible accolade in grassroots football and they should be delighted with their achievement. They have done the club proud! Special mention goes to Lily who has been named Player of the Year this season; her participation has been absolutely key in securing our victory.”
Lily said: “It felt really good to win the cup. It has been great to receive so much support throughout and it was an amazing experience to play in front of so many people in the final. It was definitely the biggest crowd either of us have played in front of.”
Both girls have been playing football since they were in Year 3 and used to play alongside the boys here at BMS as there were not enough girls to form their own team. Tilly explained: “We managed to get a girls team together in the Senior School and played a couple of matches but that stopped due to the pandemic. We will definitely try and get that back up and running, though, once things get back to normal.”
