Welcome to open day 2020

In normal times staff and students alike would be really looking forward to welcoming you in person to the school campus, showing you the facilities and talking to you about why we think BMS is such a special place.

Instead, we have tried to replicate a little of that experience in this online event using Zoom. While it can never be the same, we really do hope you enjoy your visit.

If you are unfamiliar with Zoom, a participant guide can be downloaded below, and if you experience any difficulties, please contact a member of the External Relations team directly on 07585792183.

In order to participate in either event, it is important that you have the latest version of Zoom downloaded and installed on your device. This can be done simply by following the link here. This will allow you to move freely between the various breakout rooms when they are open.

How to get the most from your virtual visit

You will have the opportunity to attend both the Junior School and Senior School sessions today as we have staggered the timings to enable you to do this.

The Junior School event will begin with a live welcome address from the Head of the Junior School at 12.30pm. This will be followed by a pre-recorded film in which you will meet some of our students and then breakout rooms will open, more detail on which appears below. The Junior School session will close at approximately 2.10pm. If you would like to hear the live welcome address by the Headmaster, you will need to access the Senior School meeting by 1.30pm when it will begin.

The Senior School event follows a similar format to the Junior School, a live address followed by a pre-recorded film in which you will hear from students and then the opportunity to speak to staff in a number of breakout rooms. The event will end by 3.15pm.

Junior School

Breakout Rooms

Junior School

Following the opening address from the Head of the Junior School and a short film, the following breakout rooms will open:

Years 3 and 4
Years 5 and 6
Sport
Admissions

In these rooms, you will have the opportunity to speak to staff, as you would during an Open Day run on site, so please come prepared with any questions you may have. You will be able to navigate between the rooms as you wish by clicking on the ‘breakout rooms’ button on your toolbar in Zoom. The rooms will be open for approximately one hour.

Senior School

Following the opening address from the Headmaster and a filmed tour of the School, the following breakout rooms will open:

There will be teaching staff in each of these rooms who will be more than happy to answer any questions you might have so do please come prepared. As we are trying to replicate the experience you would have if you had visited us in person, the staff will be in their relevant areas around the school. Please note that there will not be presentations in these rooms.

There are also staff in a number of other rooms ready to answer questions outside of specific subject areas and which we hope you may find useful:

General academic questions including Extension – for enquiries about the curriculum and other academic matters including learning extension opportunities

Assistant Head for Years 7-8 – for enquiries about any pastoral elements of school life, transition into Year 7 and PHSE

Admissions – For enquiries about the registration process, applying for bursaries, the January assessments and admissions matters more generally

When you enter the rooms, you will be able to ask questions via the chat function, raise your hand or simply listen to the conversations which may already be taking place.

You will be able to navigate between the rooms as you wish by clicking on the ‘breakout rooms’ button on your toolbar in Zoom. The rooms will be open for approximately one hour.

Although there will be representatives within some of the subject rooms who can talk about co-curricular life we have created the videos below to give you further insight into Sport, Music and Performing Arts at BMS.
