Junior School Music Prizes 18 June 2019
On Tuesday 11 June, 66 students took part in the annual Junior School Music Prizes. The competition was adjudicated by French Horn player and member of the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields, Jo Hensel.
Students showcased a variety of outstanding musical performances including a vocal recital of On My Own from the musical Les Misérables and a piano recital of Für Elise by Beethoven.
Jo, who is also Deputy-Head of Wind, Brass and Percussion at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, commented: “It was a real privilege to spend the day at BMJS on Tuesday, hearing the children perform in the annual music competition. I was really struck by the confidence and musicianship of pupils as they performed in what felt more like a wonderful concert than a competition.”
Congratulations to all the children that took part, and to the winners:
Year 3: Yuhan Song (piano)
Year 4: Scarlett Foster (voice) and Alyssia Powers (piano)
Year 5: Ziyi Song (violin and piano)
Year 6: Isabella Franklin (voice)
