Ed secures prestigious Arkwright scholarship 26 September 2024
Year 12 student Ed has been awarded a prestigious Arkwright scholarship following a rigorous application process which will offer him a range of exciting opportunities to help pursue a career in engineering.
An Arkwright Engineering Scholarship is the most esteemed scholarship of its type in the UK, designed to inspire students to pursue their dreams and change the world as an outstanding engineer of the future.
Ed, who aspires to follow a career in motorsport engineering, impressed the scholarship panel with a timing system he created for the Formula 1 in Schools project. He will be given access to networking events, online resources and mentoring through the virtual scholarship, which is funded by The Smallpeice Trust. He said: “I’m delighted to have been awarded the scholarship. It is very prestigious and opens up a number of great opportunities.
“When I found out, I was relieved and so excited. I’m looking forward to the networking events, getting to meet people in the industry and the possibilities that can bring. There are opportunities for work experience and placements. It’s a great thing to have on your CV and it feels very special.”
Ed was one of 1,532 applicants for the Arkwright scholarships this year. He is currently studying Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Economics at A Level and hopes to study mechanical engineering when he leaves BMS.
