Building Champions: Sabaudia Easter Rowing Camp 2026 30 April 2026
During the Easter break, 55 BMS students from Years 10 to 13 travelled to Sabaudia, Italy, for the School’s highly anticipated annual rowing camp.
The camp, which has become a highlight of the school rowing calendar, welcomed a large group of dedicated rowers. Each day began early, with students taking to the water to develop their technique, build endurance, and strengthen teamwork. Under the guidance of the supportive and experienced coaches, the rowers made significant progress, benefiting from the calm waters and ideal training conditions in Sabaudia, where the University of Cambridge often train their top squads in preparation for the notorious Boat Race.
With many students preparing for upcoming exams, structured study sessions were built into the daily schedule. Teachers accompanied to group to provide academic support, allowing the students to stay focused on their goals both on and off the water. Between training and revision, the camp also offered opportunities to relax and bond as a team. Evenings were spent enjoying Italian cuisine, exploring the local area, and reflecting on the day’s achievements. The desert shops the town had to offer were enjoyed by both the students and teachers.
The Sabaudia rowing camp continues to be a valuable experience for students and was hugely successful this year with Year 10 to Year 13 students mixing almost every session, which has led to massive steps forward in the development of all our rowers and put everyone in a good place for the upcoming regatta season.
