Teacher of German

Required from September 2025

Bedford Modern School is an HMC Independent Co-educational Day School located on the outskirts of Bedford. Our facilities are excellent and include a separate Junior School, dedicated Sixth Form building, purpose built Science Centre and extensive sports facilities.

The School offers a premium education, with a wide and varied curriculum, that is responsive to the needs of pupils and parents, where the intellectual needs of each pupil is given priority.

We are looking to appoint a committed and suitably qualified graduate to teach German across Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level. The successful candidate will be an excellent classroom practitioner, comfortable with using the latest technology, possess a passion for the subject, a genuine interest in delivering positive outcomes for young people, and be willing to contribute to the extensive co-curricular life of the school. The ability to be able to teach Spanish and/or French at Key Stage 3 would be desirable.

We warmly welcome applications from both experienced teachers and ECTs and offer a supported, caring programme to those starting out on their teaching career.

In return, we can offer an excellent working environment, 35 term-time weeks, a salary range which is competitive and above the national teachers’ pay scales, the option to be part of a medical insurance scheme and generous fee remission (subject to availability and entrance requirements).

A part time appointment could be considered for a suitable candidate.

Closing date: Monday 12 May 2025

Interviews: Friday 16 May 2025

Please note, we reserve the right to close the vacancy early should we receive a sufficient number of suitable applicants.

Any internal candidates must apply through Employee Self Service.  Please see the guide in the company news area.

The School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

Applicants will be required to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).  The School may carry out online searches on shortlisted applicants.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.  The School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions on a self-declaration form in advance of attending an interview.
