Sixth Form
Why BMS Sixth Form?
Sixth Form is where ambition takes shape.
At Bedford Modern School, students choose to stay with us, and many others choose to join us, because of our reputation for academic excellence, the breadth of opportunity available and the vibrant co-educational community that defines life at BMS.
As one of the region’s leading academic schools, we have a long-standing record of helping students achieve outstanding A Level results and secure places at leading universities, apprenticeships and career pathways. Yet success here is about more than outcomes alone. It is about developing the confidence, independence and character to make the most of every opportunity that lies ahead.
Our students are encouraged to think deeply, challenge ideas and take increasing ownership of their learning. Supported by expert teachers and outstanding guidance, they develop the academic skills and intellectual curiosity needed to excel beyond Sixth Form.
More than results
What makes BMS Sixth Form distinctive is the balance between academic ambition and personal development.
Housed in the dedicated Rutherford Building, students enjoy the independence of a university-style environment while remaining part of a supportive and close-knit community. Our modern study spaces, Sixth Form café and dedicated facilities provide an environment where students can thrive both academically and personally.
Alongside their studies, students are encouraged to make the most of a rich programme of opportunities in sport, leadership, community engagement, performance, enrichment and the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). Whether representing the School, leading a society, contributing to outreach projects or pursuing a passion beyond the curriculum, students learn that education is about more than academic achievement alone.
Preparing for life beyond BMS
The Sixth Form years are a bridge between school and adulthood.
Through our personal development and enrichment programmes, students develop the confidence to make informed decisions, lead responsibly and navigate an increasingly complex world. They leave BMS as independent thinkers, effective communicators and well-rounded young people who are ready to thrive wherever their future takes them.
Most importantly, they do so as part of a community that believes ambition and support belong together.
“As our family’s connection with Bedford Modern draws to a close, we do so with enormous gratitude for the care, support, opportunities and friendships that the school has provided.”
