The admissions journey

We aim to make the admissions process as straightforward and supportive as possible for both students and their families. From your very first enquiry, our experienced Admissions Team will be on hand to guide you through each stage, answer any questions and help make the journey an enjoyable one.

Five simple steps to joining BMS.

The best way to discover Bedford Modern School is to experience it for yourself. Meet our students and staff, explore our campus and get a real sense of the warmth, energy and ambition that make BMS such a special place to learn. Whether you are just beginning your school search or considering your next steps, there are plenty of opportunities to visit and find out more. We encourage families to immerse themselves in as much, or as little, of school life as they wish. Every visit offers a different perspective and helps build a fuller picture of what it means to be part of the BMS community.

To register your child, simply complete the online Registration Form , upload a copy of their full birth certificate and a passport style photo of your child ,and pay the registration fee of £150.

As part of the admissions process, we will request a reference from your child’s current school. We encourage parents to inform their child’s school of their intention to apply to BMS.

If your child requires access arrangements for the assessment, such as extra time or the use of a laptop, please provide supporting documentation from a Specialist Teacher, Educational Psychologist or Consultant when submitting your registration.

We understand that assessments can feel like a significant milestone, which is why we aim to make the process as welcoming and straightforward as possible. Our assessments are designed to help us get to know each student, their strengths, potential and enthusiasm for learning.

From the moment you register, our Admissions Team will guide you through each stage, answer any questions and ensure your family feels informed and supported throughout the process.

Results will be sent on 10 February 2027. We are unable to give results before this date. If an offer of a place is made it is accompanied by various forms. Completion and signature of the Acceptance Form indicates that you wish to accept the place offered and that you understand the Terms and Conditions of Acceptance. If the School is able to offer a bursary award, the financial assistance details will be included with the offer letter.

The deadline for acceptance is 03 March 2027. Any places not accepted by this date may then be made available to late entry candidates.

We hold Junior, Senior and Sixth Form New Parent and Student Information Evenings during the Summer Term prior to entry in September. Information on uniform, term dates, tutor groups etc is shared and it is also an opportunity to discuss any last-minute queries.

Students will also meet their Form Tutors or Head of Year at these events. Students will also take part in a Move Up Day in late June/early July.
