For many years students at BMS have been able to take advantage of the opportunity to take part in a month long overseas expedition. Following eighteen months of training & fundraising these include the planning of an itinerary comprising of trekking at altitude (following acclimatisation), a sustainable project, cultural awareness and time for rest & relaxation in a distinctive environment.
They have developed their leadership & group skills as well as budgeting & organising food, accommodation & transport. They have also had the privilege of spending time with local people from very different cultures and contributing to their communities.
In recent years expeditions have taken place to Venezuela, China, Ethiopia, Peru and North India. Students return with fascinating stories to tell and memories of amazing places. The projects are based in rural schools, orphanages or environmental centres and enable students to work alongside local communities and appreciate something of what life is like in these extraordinary countries.
Participating in an expedition may be an opportunity of a lifetime. It helps to prepare students for life`s challenges and equips them with many of the skills that they will need in the years to come.
