There are two exams for the full A Level plus a coursework element worth 20%. Two teachers work with each group with Mr Bywater, the Head of English, co-ordinating the teaching of the course.
It is a challenging A Level, requiring an understanding of linguistic and literary terminology, and you will need to have at least a B in I/GCSE English or Literature. You will study fiction and non-fiction and will need to demonstrate sensitivity to the use of language by other writers. You will also need to analyse your own writing when producing pieces for different audiences, purposes and in different forms.
The course will appeal to students who have an interest in reading fiction and non-fiction from the past and present, enjoy expressing their opinions and justifying their comments, enjoy imitating the writing style of others as well as producing original work of their own.
