Sixth Chemistry

Chemistry has been a very popular choice of A Level at BMS for some years.  In choosing Chemistry our students know that they are opting for an intellectually stimulating and challenging subject which equips them with a wide range of desirable skills.

An A Level in Chemistry opens up many options at university and complements a range of subjects both within and outside the Science Faculty.  The department is staffed by highly qualified and experienced teachers and technicians.  It is our collective aim to make our students’ experiences of Chemistry in the Sixth Form as enjoyable and enriching as possible.  Our Sixth Form students have a wealth of opportunity to broaden their scientific horizons, from the annual Chemistry Extravaganza to the International Chemistry Olympiad.

We follow the OCR A level, Chemistry A.  This course provides students with the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to progress at undergraduate level.  We firmly believe that practical work should be at the heart of our teaching, offering students the opportunity to develop their core practical competencies and working towards the Practical Endorsement, a recognised achievement which is awarded alongside the A Level grade.  The Year 13 material builds directly upon the topics covered in Year 12 with students sitting the three A Level papers at the end of Year 13.
