Senior PE at Bedford Modern School

PE and Games

Part of the Sports Faculty, the Physical Education Department is a vibrant, bustling and thriving department which is staffed by six fully qualified Physical Education specialists and has two main teaching rooms which are well resourced with up-to-date audio visual equipment.  We actively encourage the use of ICT in lessons and we utilise tablets both within and outside the classroom to enhance learning.

Our team has a broad range of expertise within teaching, examining and sporting disciplines.  Most members of the Department are responsible for specific sports in which they have a particular knowledge and expertise with some having taught across other subject areas.

Within Physical Education Years 3-9 enjoy two 55 minute lessons, whilst Years 10 & 11 pupils participate in a single 55 minute lesson during a 10 day cycle.

Games follow a set pattern of one afternoon per 5 day cycle with the whole year group taking part.  Year 5 & 6 however, receive 3 Games sessions over 10 days. To support the games programme there is one 55 minute Key Skills lessons per week for Years 3-7 where the fundamental skills of the core ‘game’ are developed.

Both the PE and Games programmes are evenly divided between ‘Winter’ and ‘Summer’ sports, Individual and Team Sports and Contact and Non-Contact sports.
