Junior School Head’s Blog

There have been a number of different fixtures taking place this term in a wide range of sports.  There has been football, netball and cross country.  The latter team have been performing particularly well and the boys’ team came first overall (out of more than 20 schools) at the Bedfordia meet.  Mr Bucktin recently informed me that they have become the county champions this year which is a truly fantastic achievement.  In addition our Y4 Netball team came second in their tournament at Witham Hall last Wednesday – quite a result seeing as eleven teams took part.  What a super achievement girls!  Very well done indeed to all the sports’ teams.

I was thrilled to be entertained by our musicians last week at their concert too.  It always amazes me that they reach such a high standard of performance for children so young.  Well done to all who were involved and also to Mr Bishop who is responsible for driving Music forward in the Junior School and the support he received from Mrs Judge and Mrs Leigh.

Our Assembly was taken by 4FMG last week and they presented the school with their theme of feelings and emotions.  They told us that having feelings and emotions is what sets humans apart from other animals and that it is perfectly normal to experience the full range, it’s just that we should try to learn how to cope with them.  Lovely clear voices were heard right from the back – well done, 4FMG and Mrs Gale!

Wednesday 06 February marks a challenging day for some of our strongest mathematicians.  Building on last year’s success, the first round of this year’s Primary Maths Challenge was navigated by ten children who have progressed through to the bonus round.  All in Year 6, they individually have the task of tackling some very tricky questions once again.  These are often very difficult indeed but I am sure they will do us proud once again.

The half term break begins on Friday after school.  It might be wise to use the holiday as an opportunity for a stock-take of uniform and stationery so that the children return fully equipped on Monday 18 February.  If any stray items turn up amidst your own child’s, please return them to school so that we can reunite them with their owner.

Have a lovely family week.
