As we draw the term and academic year to a close I would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone who has supported BMS during the past 12 months: parents, former parents and OBMs and, importantly, the staff without whose dedication, commitment and good humour it simply wouldn’t be the place that it is. I would also like to congratulate the students from across the whole school on all they have achieved in so many areas of school life.
We look forward to seeing those students who have recently taken their A Levels return to School on 17 August to pick up their results. Before that they have their Leaver’s Ball to enjoy this week then a final assembly on Friday. They have been a fantastic year group and I wish them all the very best with whatever they choose to do on the next stage of their journeys.
This year the end of term marks a significant point in my own life as my wife, Emily, and I are also leaving BMS and together with our three sons are moving to Dubai. It has been a privilege and honour to be Headmaster of Bedford Modern School. I am not sure I will ever encounter a more caring, friendly, supportive and above all, happy school again and I have especially enjoyed the close rapport I have enjoyed with so many families. Maybe quite appropriately, one of my proudest moments (amongst many), has just passed with the opening of our new Science Centre. It is an inspiring and stunning building which I hope will spearhead the success of the School for many years to come. I have no doubt that BMS will continue to go from strength to strength and I am very proud indeed to have been a small part of its history.
And finally, as thoughts turn to a well-deserved summer break to recharge those batteries and spend some time with family and friends, I wish those staff and students who are heading off on a number of trips safe travels.
