Junior School Head’s Blog

Last Friday it was the turn of 3CT to share their assembly with us. Their theme was Comic Relief and they gave such an assured performance – I heard every word!  Very well done indeed to 3CT and Mrs Toumazou.

We are, and have been doing a range of fundraising events for this worthwhile cause and urge you to dig deep for this week in the run up to the final event on Friday. Hand knitted, crème egg filled chicks will be on sale from Monday for £2.50 each. Then on Friday Red Nose Day will take over in the Junior School where we are encouraging the children to “Be Scruffy for Money”. It will pain me to tell children to push their socks down, un-tuck their shirts and leave their top buttons undone, but it is all in the name of charity!

My thanks go to the BMSPA, headed up by Zohra Zaman and Wendy Dooley who organised the very successful family quiz on Saturday evening. It was extremely well attended and there were some tough questions, especially for the adults present!

Despite being the last full week before we break for the Easter holiday there is still a lot going on in the diary.  Tuesday sees the visit of the Airbus to do some science based activities with the children in Year 5 during the morning.

On Wednesday morning we will be visited by the Young Shakespeare Company who always bring the plays of the bard to life for our Year 6 children.  This year they will be performing Hamlet so be prepared to be impressed by their knowledge when they get home!

After school it is the turn of Year 3 to give their performance to the parents.  As with the Year 4 performance their choice of play, The Last Monster in Scotland, is closely linked to the English curriculum so will enhance the children’s learning in the classroom. I am very much looking forward to seeing what they have been doing.

For those children who have been given a part in this summer’s production of James and the Giant Peach there is a one-off Thursday rehearsal after school from 4pm until 5.15pm. The children will know by Tuesday if they are required.

Before we know it, Friday will be here and then we have a very short week in school before the Easter holiday begins. Please be aware that as it is the end of term, school will finish at 12 noon on Wednesday 29 March.
