Sixth Form Facilities

In 2006 BMS opened a state-of-the-art Sixth Form Centre and Refectory - The Rutherford Building.  The centre is designed to assist students in the transition from 'A' Levels to undergraduate study and is similar to the type of facility you would expect to find at most universities.

Moving from GCSE to 'A' Level study requires more skills of independent learning.  During the course of the two years at BMS students will learn how to manage their own time in preparation for university. Our Sixth Form Centre is at the heart of this goal and is equipped with the latest IT resources and a lecture theatre which provides the perfect venue for the range of visiting speakers that make up our Global Citizenship programme.

The proximity of the refectory ensures that refreshments are always on hand. The first floor of the Centre has an area for socialising and relaxing whilst the outdoor seating area, for use during the summer months, has breathtaking views across the Ouse Valley.

We hope that this Sixth Form Centre will help to strike the balance between working hard and playing hard in a modern school setting. We are preparing Sixth Formers at BMS to meet the many challenges of the outside world and our aim is to encourage their aspirations and to help each student achieve his/her full potential.

The Sixth Form also share the main school facilities for ICT, Design and Technology, Art, the Library and Careers Service. We also work closely with the Bedfordshire Connexions Careers Service offering pupils help and guidance. BMS is a member of the Independent Schools Careers Organisation and uses careers guidance and psychometric testing systems provided by Cambridge Occupational Analysts.
