Case Study - Year 12 Boy

Ben Gardner is in Year 12 and joined BMS in Year 6.

"My family and I were returning to the UK from Switzerland and were looking for an independent school.  We liked the friendliness that BMS offered and the way in which teachers at the School engage with their students and their subjects.  I also enjoy sport and the sporting opportunities that BMS offers were a decisive factor," added Ben.

Ben enjoys table tennis having achieved considerable success in the BMS team over the last few years.  He is also a member of the School's First Team for football as well as playing for Bedford Park Rangers.

Now that he is in Year 12, Ben has already noticed differences about life in the Sixth Form.  "Teachers are more relaxed as they know that students want to learn and develop potential careers.  The emphasis is more on student independence.  Having a dedicated Sixth Form Centre such as the Rutherford Building that is set aside from the main school will help bridge the difference between school and university, bringing with it the transition into the adult world," he said.

With 10 GCSEs, Ben is currently studying Maths, Physics, Chemistry and Latin in the Sixth Form.  "It is important for students to take every possible opportunity as it could change your career and life.  Students should ensure they choose their subjects carefully".

Ben has the following advice to anyone considering joining the BMS Sixth Form, "Being a co-educational school brings about more competition and therefore ultimately helps all students achieve more and this has certainly enabled girls' sport to advance considerably.  Come to BMS, enjoy BMS and take every opportunity at BMS", said Ben.
