Senior School Subjects
The curriculum in the Senior School offers an appealing combination of breadth and depth. Throughout this time our students study subjects both for their own sake as well as preparing them to attain the best possible qualifications.
All students benefit from the common curriculum in Year's 7 and 8 which concentrates on the core subjects of Mathematics, English and Science as well as three humanities, two languages, and dedicated lessons in ICT, Technology, Music, Art and Drama.
Subject selection involves students and their parents as early as Year 9. Students continue to follow all the core subjects with a measure of choice being introduced. There are four options (with one of French or German being compulsory). Other choices include Spanish, Latin, Design and Technology, Art, Drama and Music.
The commitment which ensues is developed in the two years of preparation for GCSE. All students take English, English Literature and Mathematics. They must also choose all separate science subjects, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, or the three covered as Dual Award. Beyond that they pick the next four (or five if they have selected Dual Award Science) subjects which play to their strengths and to any tentative career intentions.
