Bedford Modern School Sports Department are delighted to announce that there will be a Sportsman's Dinner on the evening of Friday 19th March.
The evening is seen as both a celebration of the sport offered at Bedford Modern School as well as the opportunity for parents and friends to be entertained by two former professional players.
The Sportsman's Dinner will begin with a drinks reception at 7.00pm followed by a three course meal in the Rutherford Building, a Guest Speaker and an Auction of sporting memorabilia.
This year, Bedford Modern School have secured Chris Sheasby, the ex-England, London Wasps, Harlequins and London Irish No. 8, to compere the evening, with Ron "Chopper" Harris, the formidable Chelsea defender from the 1960's and 1970's as a guest speaker.
Ron's first Chelsea honours came with a League Cup win over Leicester City in 1965. The following year he became Club Captain and in 1967 became the youngest ever Captain to lead out a side in an FA Cup Final, though they lost 2-1 to Tottenham. Chelsea, led by Harris, were victorious winners of the FA Cup Final three years later, this time against Leeds United. Ron went on to lift Chelsea's first major European honour, the Cup Winners' Cup, against Real Madrid in 1971.
All proceeds from the event will go towards the forthcoming BMS Rugby Tour to Italy, Football Tour to Spain and the Cricket Tours to Guernsey and Dublin. The Sportman's Dinner is open to all parents and their friends and tickets are priced at £30.00 each with a maximum of ten places per table.
