Economics and Business Studies - Mrs A. Pollard

We are the first Harpur Trust school to create a Politics, Philosophy, Economics & Business Studies (PPE) Faculty and it is an exciting new development with an enormous range of advantages.

This is a brand new Faculty with subjects which are only offered at A Level in the Sixth Form. The Faculty incorporates Politics, Philosophy, Economics and Business Studies and the Faculty is located in the Sixth Form Rutherford Building, thus being at the hub of Sixth Form life. This new location means that we are near to Sixth Form administration, the Head of Sixth Form and near to the Wilden Room, which is generously provided with computers and work space. Downstairs in the Rutherford Building there is a room for visiting speakers with a data projector already installed for use by the Faculty. PPE also has its own library within the Faculty which is used for occasional tutoring. The library has a study area for PPE students to use as well as being generously stocked with journals, books and current affairs magazines as well as a daily copy of the Financial Times.

Each individual Department retains its own strong and distinct identity and expertise, but PPE enables a co-ordinated approach and a sharing of resources which should enable the students within the Faculty to benefit significantly. For example, it will allow us to develop links with Universities and share visiting lecturers and speakers through the newly created PPE Society.  One of our aims is to help Year 11 make better informed choices about A Level subjects through involving them in some PPE Society events and possibly through a Year 11 PPE 'taster day' of lessons. It also allows us to help current PPE students to make better informed choices about university courses within the Faculty as we build up and share our experience and knowledge and continue our excellent links with past students studying our subjects.
