Charlotte's entry has been selected as one of the three Highly Commended entries in the 12-14 years category.
This year's competition was of a very high standard with hundreds of entries and Charlotte has been invited to attend The Young Geographer of the Year Awards Ceremony at The Royal Geographical Society in London on Friday 18 November. The Awards will be presented by Michael Palin CBE, President of The Royal Geographical Society.
14 year old Charlotte said: "The remit of the competition was to answer the question 'what Should All Geographers Understand?' I tried to answer this from a broad perspective using a geographical thought process in a visual way and illustrated this using photos from my holidays.
"I am very excited about the Young Geographer of the Year Awards and meeting Michael Palin. In my mind, Geography, as with Maths, has principles that can be used in everyday life," said Charlotte.
Ben Day, a Geography teacher at Bedford Modern School who encouraged Charlotte to enter the competition said: "Charlotte produced a visual and informative diagram that encompassed all of the key values of what all good Geography pupils should understand.
"Charlotte undertook this task with no input from her teacher and it was completed in her spare time over the summer holidays. She showed an excellent understanding of the task and used all of her knowledge of Physical, Human and Environmental Geography within her diagram. I am very proud that Charlotte has achieved such a fantastic result in a national competition."
