The Young Enterprise Company Programme provides Year 12 students with the opportunity to set up and run their own real company over the course of one academic year, with the support and guidance of a volunteer adviser from business.
Students elect a board of directors from amongst their peers, raise share capital, market and finance a real product or service of their own choice and sell it to the public. Through participating in the Company Programme students develop their enterprise knowledge and understanding skills and attributes in a business
context. They learn by doing; coping with a changing and evolving business; developing
essential skills such as teamwork; communication; problem solving; managing risk; creativity; innovation and leadership.
Innovation Awards
Towards the end of the year Young Enterprise companies take part in a series of high profile local and regional company of the year competitions. 12 regional winning companies from across the UK are selected each year to compete in the prestigious HSBC Young Enterprise Innovation Awards UK final.
Teams meet on a regular basis on a Tuesday night after school and during the week in their own time. This year BMS had two businesses taking part each consisting of around 15 employees. They took part in a number of fund raising events and also attended trade fairs to sell their products which included children jigsaw puzzles which were imported from Sri Lanka and an educational CD rom aimed at developing language skills for junior school children.
