Bedford Modern School would like to thank former pupil and Olympic rowing legend Tim Foster MBE for coaching the School's 1st VIII on Friday 9 December. Tim Foster MBE is pictured alongside Ali Brown, Director of Rowing at Bedford Modern School.
Tim Foster began his rowing career when he was a pupil at Bedford Modern School between 1983 and 1988. Tim Foster was President of the Oxford University Rowing Club and also stroke of the Oxford Boat in the 1997 University Boat Race.
Having won many medals in various rowing world championships, a Bronze Medal (Coxless IVs) in the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games and a Gold Medal in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games (Coxed IVs), Tim was chosen as Bedford's Sports Personality of the Year 1997.
Tim was awarded the MBE in 2001 and retired from competitive rowing at the end of that year before moving into coaching.
Olympic legend Tim Foster MBE was honoured with the Sporting Legend Award at BBC East's Sports Personality of the Year Awards held at the University of Bedfordshire on Thursday 8 December 2011. Tim Foster said: "I was sitting up there and there were several seats with my name on. I thought this was for the Head Coach of Rowing at Bedford Modern School and the Headmaster; to receive this award is a massive shock and a massive honour."
Ali Brown, Director of Rowing at Bedford Modern School said: "It was a real privilege to have someone of Tim's calibre and experience, re-visit his old school and coach our 1st VIII.
"Tim is an Olympic sporting legend whose down-to-earth approach and passion for Bedford Modern School really shone through and I know our 1st VIII learnt so much from Tim's coaching session and his post-training talk at the Boathouse.
"I look forward to seeing Tim Foster back at Bedford Modern School and thank him for sparing his time to coach our 1st VIII."
