Former Bedford Modern School student Monty Panesar has been recalled to the Test XI for the second Test in Abu Dhabi in Pakistan.
Monty Panesar joined Bedford Modern School's Sixth Form in 1998 when he was already a minor counties cricketer, having played for Bedfordshire since the age of 16.
Monty last visited Bedford Modern School in 2009, when he spoke to pupils and passed on some tips to future spin bowlers in addition to signing books and cricket bats for the pupils.
It is great to see Monty back in England's Test side since he last played against the Australians in Cardiff in 2010. Monty has been bowling very well since he moved from Northamptonshire to Sussex, and has also been in Australia playing grade cricket. It is obvious that he is determined to improve and resurrect his test career.
Presently, Monty is playing in the second test against Pakistan in the U.A.E. where he has been bowling with great control and confidence, as well as taking a number of wickets. Hopefully this tour will highlight Monty's importance to the England team and many more caps will be forthcoming.
