Bedford Modern School is delighted with the success of the Drop In sessions held at the School over the past four years and hosted another of its very popular Drop In sessions for local senior citizens on Friday 20 January.
The Drop In session took place in the Rutherford Building between 2.30pm and 4.00pm and musical accompaniment was provided by Year 13 student Alexandra Hall. "I shall be playing two songs on the acoustic guitar and like performing in a community atmosphere such as this," said Alex.
Staff and Sixth Formers welcomed many senior citizens who have been attending the Drop In sessions for some time as well as several newcomers who were visiting Bedford Modern School's Drop In session for the first time.
Throughout the afternoon, guests enjoyed tea and cakes, interacted with Sixth Form students, took part in a short quiz and had plenty of time to socialise and chat with each other.
Visitors Maureen Skinnard, Mary Bartram and Sheila Sunley, who have been attending the sessions for the last couple of years, said: "There's a lovely atmosphere during these afternoons at Bedford Modern School. The students are polite and friendly and it is good to see young and old mixing. We especially enjoy the quizzes and sometimes listening to a guest speaker."
During the Drop In session last November, the senior citizens were visited by Bedford Modern Junior School pupils who distributed a variety of dried and tinned produce they had collected in their Harvest Festival assembly for sharing amongst the guests.
The following Drop In dates for senior citizens have been confirmed for 2012:-
