Junior School Head's Blog week ending 27 January

This has been another busy week in the life of Bedford Modern Junior School with a variety of Activity Days and Assessments being carried out for pupils intending to join our Junior School this September.  Results will be posted out on 8 February and I wish all our candidates the very best of luck.

Anticipation and excitement is building up rapidly with our Year 3 pupils who, on Wednesday 25 January, will take part in a Build an Egyptian Pyramid workshop.  Throughout the day, the children will build the pyramid, use a sledge to move building blocks just as the Egyptians did, use chisels to carve the hieroglyphics into rock and make papyrus the Egyptian way.  The workshop will be led by Charlie Lupton whose creative and friendly approach really brings history to life for pupils.  All of Charlie's workshops provide an interactive way of learning about history and, last year, Charlie visited our Junior School and held a Build a Tudor House workshop.  http://www.makeyourownhistory.co.uk/egyptian-pyramid

The Travelling Book Fair also stops off at Bedford Modern Junior School this week with an opportunity for pupils to browse and purchase a selection of new books relevant to their age groups.

May I also take this opportunity to welcome Mrs Frances Gale, our part-time LSA/Cover Supervisor who has settled in immediately with Junior School staff and pupils.

Finally, I look forward to meeting some of you at the Years 3, 4 and 5 Parents' Consultation Evening on 25 January.
