Welcome back to the second half of the Spring Term. I hope that as we move forward over the coming weeks we have left the cold and wintry weather behind us, and can look forward to warmer and brighter weather as spring approaches.
I would like to take this opportunity to highlight Year 8 pupil Julie Rogers who has been selected to compete for Great Britain at the Women's Sitting Volleyball Team Inter-Continental Cup in Cairo, Egypt, between 29 February and 10 March. Find out more about Julie's courage and determination at http://www.bedmod.co.uk/en/Julie Rogers selected for GB
Over the last few weeks, the School has been fortunate to welcome a number of high profile visitors including Baroness Young who spoke to Sixth Form Politics students about her work in the House of Lords and international award-winning professional a cappella ensemble The Songmen who performed in a concert alongside our Junior School Choir. The School is very grateful to all our visitors who take time out of their busy schedule to visit BMS and share their knowledge and experience for the enrichment of our pupils.
This week, our AS Politics students embark on a three day visit to Edinburgh departing on Sunday 19 February.
I look forward to seeing parents of Year 9 pupils at the first of our Year 9 Parents' Evenings on Thursday 23 February. On the same day, our Year 6 pupils will enjoy what will probably be their first encounter with the works of Shakespeare, as the Bard is brought to life by a visit from The Young Shakespeare Company.
Under the expert guidance of Stuart Baker, Head of Government and Politics, a small number of our pupils will participate in the Model United Nations Competition taking place on Saturday 25 February, based on the workings of the real United Nations.
Finally, good luck to all BMS girls and boys participating in a wide range of sporting activities over the coming week including Netball, Football, Boys' Hockey, Girls' Hockey, Rugby 7's, Rowing (Reading University Head of River), Mixed Water Polo, and a one-day Equestrian event.
