Headmaster's Blog week ending 1st July

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Jack Pooley as Head Boy, Rosie Cross as Head Girl, Paul Kerr as Deputy Head Boy and Jasmine Tredget as Deputy Head Girl as part of Bedford Modern School's Student Leadership Team for 2011/2012.

The final part of our Junior School Sports Afternoon takes place on Monday and I hope the weather is as good as it was on Sunday!  Year 8 pupils will also take part in an E-Factor Challenge as part of their Academic Enrichment Programme on the same day.

On Tuesday 28th June, we welcome many eminent speakers to our Year 12 Careers Day including several Old Bedford Modernians (OBMs).  I know how valuable this day is for our Year 12 students and am grateful to all our speakers for sharing their time and knowledge with us.  Later that evening the second of our Year 10 Parents' Evenings takes place.

Our "move up" days for Year 11 pupils moving into Year 12 takes place on 29th and 30th June with the Junior School Prizegiving being held in the Christopher Fry Hall on Thursday evening.

I know the Year 5 pupils are eagerly anticipating their trip to Kentwell Hall on Friday to learn more about Tudor life and I am sure they will have an interesting and enjoyable visit.

Don't forget it's our annual Sports Awards Evening on Friday 1st July in the Howard Hall. We are fortunate that our guest speaker is Danny Crates, one of the world's most inspiring athletes of the modern era.  Recently retired from International competition, the former T46 arm amputee, 2004 Paralympic Champion, European Champion, Paralympic World Cup winner and world record holder has some amazing achievements and an amazing story to share.

Finally, the very best of luck to all the BMS crews racing at Henley Royal Regatta this week.
