As I write this week's Blog in temperatures of 28-degrees, I have had to check my calendar to remind myself that it really is the beginning of October. The warmest end to September on record has seen much of the country basking in mid-summer sunshine. They say, however, that every picture tells a story and the stunning rustic colours of changing leaves on the trees and the thrill of picking up the first shiny conker of the season, remind us that autumn beckons and we are rapidly approaching half-term.
I very much hope as many of you as possible will be able to attend our Tea-Time Concert on Monday 3 October at 4.30pm in the Music School. Pupils from both our Junior and Senior School will perform pieces and they are always encouraged by a supportive and enthusiastic audience so please do come along if you can as this is an ideal way to start off the week.
Between 30 September and 3 October, 69 of our Year 11 GCSE students and five staff travelled to Cranedale Centre, near Malton in Yorkshire to carry out river and coastal investigations.
A Junior School Parents' Consultation Evening takes place later in the day for current BMS parents with another scheduled for Wednesday 5 October.
On Thursday our Year 7 pupils are fortunate enough to attend a production of 'The Railway Children'. The production is staged in the disused Eurostar terminal and platforms at Waterloo Station, where seats have been added on either side of the tracks, adding real authenticity to the production. The touching story by E. Nesbit was first published in 1906 and shows great insight into childhood experiences and explores themes that are still relevant to today's families.
In the evening, I look forward to seeing many of you at our Year 12 Parent/Tutor Evening.
Year 9 pupils will be taking a trip to the Battlefields around Ypres on Friday visiting the major sites from the First World War. This is sure to be a moving and informative part of the pupil's humanities curriculum.
Sporting fixtures come thick and fast at this time of year and this week is no exception with rugby, girls' hockey, football and boys' water polo fixtures all scheduled in the calendar.
A special mention to the BMS Equestrian Team who compete in the National Schools Equestrian Association Show-Jumping Qualifiers away at Keysoe on Saturday 8 October and also all our Year 9-13 girls and boys who are preparing for the Bedford Autumn Fours and Small Boats Head on Sunday 9 October.
Finally, why not check out the Bedford Modern School Facebook or Twitter accounts for the latest news?
Have a good week and enjoy the sunshine before temperatures return to a more normal seasonal average.
