Headmaster Blog week ending 2 September

Welcome back to the start of the Autumn Term.  I trust you all had an enjoyable summer break and return refreshed to the new challenges and opportunities the coming academic year will bring.

Our Year 11 pupils broke all records in the School's history this year with their stunning GCSE results.  72% of all grades were at A*/A which is an increase on the previous highest ever results that were obtained last year.

With a 100% pass rate across the year-group, 93% achieved an A*/B with 99% gaining an A* to C grade.  Congratulations to all our Year 11 pupils, including Isabel and Rosalind Latham, Bethan Thomas, Phil Mead and James Beswick who each achieved 10 A* grades.

97% of our Year 13 students achieved an A* to C grade in their A Level examinations, with 52% gaining an A* or A grade.  Ian Orton and Callum Mackay both achieved 4A* grades and Hannah Hurley, Aisling Brady, Sam Edwards, Matt Stanley, James Coleman and Sophie King each secured 3 A* grades.  Over the years, these Year 13 students have been so committed to the School and now leave us with excellent individual successes which they have worked so hard to achieve.  I wish them every success in the future and look forward to keeping in touch with them via the OBM network.

I am also delighted to welcome Sarah Davis, Senior Deputy Head and Richard Lynn as our new Head of Junior School.  Interviews with both Sarah Davis and Richard Lynn will appear in this term's edition of The Modernian that will be published in October.

Finally, parents, OBMs and their families are all welcome to join us on Saturday 3 September for the first ever Inter-OBM Rugby 7s Festival with 11 alumni teams competing for the honour of lifting the tournament trophy.  Bacon rolls, tea, coffee and a fully licensed bar will be available throughout the day which runs from 11.00am to 3.00pm on the School's Sports Fields.
