Headmaster Blog week ending 11 November

The second of our Sixth Form Taster Weeks begins on Monday 7 November with prospective students 'shadowing' our students to find out what it's really like in the Sixth Form here at BMS.

Our Sixth Form Politics students travel to The British Library for a conference entitled 'Understanding U.S. Politics 2011' on Monday.  This high profile event features special guests including The Honourable Martin Frost (Democrat, Texas) and The Honourable Scott Klug (Republican, Wisconsin).

Year 4 pupils take a trip 'down Hazard Alley' on Tuesday 8 November at the Safety Centre in Milton Keynes learning about hazardous situations in complete safety.

Another of our Year 3 Taster Days takes place on Wednesday whilst on Thursday 10 November a Year 12 and 13 Theatre Studies trip takes place to Pitman Painters at the Duchess Theatre and Britannicus at Wilton's Musical Hall at Tower Bridge.

On Friday 11 November, staff and pupils will join together in our annual Remembrance Day Services in the Howard Hall.

Much preparation has taken place over the last few weeks for our whole School Open Day on Saturday 12 November.  Two sessions are available, one at 10.00am and one at 2.00pm.  Please do book a place and come and see what Bedford Modern School is all about.  For more information, please contact the Admissions Department on admissions@bedmod.co.uk

Our sports teams are competing in a number of fixtures this week including the Rugby U15 Daily Mail Cup Round 4; the Netball U19 County Tournament; the Girls' Hockey U18 National Schools' Championships (East Regional Round) and Boys' Water Polo U18 ESSA Round 1.

Well done to Year 12 student Miriam Keaveny who has been chosen for Amnesty International's Advisory Group.  Miriam was one of over 50 applicants and is also President of Bedford Modern School's Amnesty International Society.

Congratulations also to the BMS Ski Teams who have been in action recently.  The Junior Ski Team competed in the U14 Finals, the U16 Ski Team finished 5th overall in the English Finals and the BMS Open Ski Team for the English Schools' Ski Association (ESSKIA) 2011 came 10th in the country resulting in qualification for the British Finals in Scotland later this month.

Finally, with the Eurozone in crisis and a continued threat to the UK economy, John Ryan, our Economics and Business Studies teacher has written a news article expressing his viewpoint.  Why not take a look at what John has to say by going to http://www.bedmod.co.uk/en/Economic outlook for UK

Have a good week.
