Edmund Fenton Fowler, a Year 12 student at Bedford Modern School, has had a promising start to his second season of international alpine ski-racing.

Edmund has been able to manage his AS level schedule to permit him to do more pre-season training this year.  Although the late arrival of snow in the Alps forced the cancellation of several races he was entered for in the run up to Christmas, Ed was able to compete in one, the BARSC Junior Male Slalom race, which was held in Champoluc, Italy on 20 December.

After a very large sudden snowfall, conditions were very difficult but Ed's strength and pre-season training enabled him to put down a fine performance to take the Bronze Medal in the Junior 1 age category.

"This was my first medal in Europe.  I aim to get some more podium places and to reduce my FIS points as the season progresses," said Ed.

Nigel Robinson, Ski Co-Ordinator at Bedford Modern School added: "This is a great reward for Ed's hard work and determination over the years. Ed is a shining example for the rest of the Bedford Modern School Ski Team."
