Senior School Curriculum.
Deputy Head Academic: Mr Matt Price
The curriculum in the Senior School offers an appealing combination of breadth and depth. Throughout this time our students study subjects both for their own sake as well as preparing them to attain the best possible qualifications.
All students benefit from a common curriculum in Years 7 and 8 which concentrates on the core subjects of Mathematics, English and Science as well as three humanities, three languages, and dedicated lessons in ICT, Technology, Music, Art and Drama.
Subject selection involves students and their parents as early as Year 8. Students continue to follow all the core subjects with a measure of choice being introduced. From year 9 there are four options (with one Modern Foreign Language being compulsory). Choices include Latin, Design and Technology, Art, Drama and Music.
At GCSE students take a core of English, English Literature, Mathematics and all three separate Sciences. They then choose four other subjects from a choice of: French, German, Spanish, Latin, Classical Civilisation, Geography, History, Religious Studies, Art and Design, Design and Technology (3 different options: systems & control, resistant materials, graphics), Drama, Music and Physical Education.
The expectation is that students joining BMS Sixth Form would choose 4 AS subjects from the list of 29 on offer.
