Sport

Sport and physical activity play an important part in school life.  Throughout their time at BMS, our students have the opportunity to be involved in many different sports and clubs, regardless of ability. We currently offer over 30 different physical activities, with more than 100 teams and 1000 fixtures during the year. This can include training camps and sports tours as well as hosting overseas teams. We also have an extensive House Programme which allows students to compete in over 20 different sports.

The benefits of sport and physical activity are considerable and well documented. We hope that all students will leave BMS with a desire to continue taking part in regular exercise in an activity or sport they have discovered in their time here.

We have outstanding quality within our Sports Department with many teachers and coaches recognised at national level within their respective sport.  The department has 14 full time and 15 part time staff dedicated to sport across both the Junior and Senior School and are supported by many academic staff who have specific expertise in one or more sports. Staffing, resourcing and period allocation all reflect the high priority given to sporting activity within the School.

Aims:

  • To provide opportunity for all students to enjoy participation in sport and exercise.

  • To teach all students the values and benefits of exercise.

  • To develop personal qualities (e.g. determination, concentration, self discipline, confidence, teamwork, etc.).

  • To provide each individual with the opportunity to reach their full athletic and sporting potential.

  • To encourage lifelong activity in sport and exercise.
