English Language and Literature.

Head of Faculty and Subject:  Mr Stephen Bywater

English Language and Literature at A Level is a challenging course, requiring an understanding of linguistic and literary terminology, and you will need to have at least a B in both GCSE English and Literature. You will study fiction and non-fiction and will need to demonstrate sensitivity to the use of language by other writers. You will also need to analyse your own writing when producing pieces for different audiences, purposes and in different forms.

We use the Edexcel course which has four components, two for AS in Year 12, with the possibility of re-sitting in January or May, and two for the full A Level in Year 13.  There is a mandatory coursework element in each year.  Two teachers work with each group, with Mr Bywater the Head of English co-ordinating the teaching of the course.
