Economics.
Head of Faculty and Subject: Mrs Angela Pollard
Economics is about the world’s scarce resources and how we allocate them. The growth of China and its demands on the world’s resources is a typical topic. We also look at markets and how markets might fail. The BP environmental disaster in 2010 and the causes and consequence of it is another good example of how we might apply Economic theory. Globalisation and The European Union are common themes running throughout the A Level course.
Economics is part of the Politics, Philosophy and Economics (PPE) Faculty and is offered at AS and A2 Level. We follow the AQA specification for Economics and there is no coursework requirement.
The Economics course is enriched by a range of activities. Recently, we have had visits from Faisal Islam, Channel 4’s Economics Correspondent, Ray Powell, Chief Examiner for AQA Economics and Nick Luder, an OBM now working at JP Morgan.
