BMS offers Music and Music Technology at A Level: we follow the AQA specification for A Level Music. We enjoy very healthy numbers in both subjects and our results are strong.
At A Level, the Music courses develop the skills of performance, composition and listening/analysis/history of music, and students will spend the two years of each course building up a portfolio of work to be submitted.
The Music Technology courses generally appeal to students with an interest in the development of popular music, recording and music ICT skills. Like Music, the coursework element is 60%, but the emphasis is on recording and production skills, in addition to arranging and composing using computers. The listening (exam) element of the course covers the development of pop and jazz since 1920, and studio recording and production skills. We are very well furnished to offer Music and Music technology, and enjoy the use of excellent facilities in the Music School.
Music Tech allows musicians to record, produce and arrange music using a variety of computer software and recording techniques. These include computer sequencing, multitrack and classical recording, and composing and arranging using SIbelius software.
