Drama and Theatre Studies.

Head of Faculty:  Mrs Helen Rees-Bidder
Head of Subject:  Mr Jason Ridington-Smith

AS and A Level Theatre Studies is an extremely popular subject that is accepted by every university in the country, including Oxford and Cambridge. We currently have four sets which are all co-educational. The group practical is worth 40% of the final grade and there are two written papers each worth 30%.

Set texts studied include:

A Doll’s House

The Trial

Blood Wedding

We run regular theatre trips - recent productions seen include Warhorse and Alls Well That Ends Well.

Students can also choose to study technical aspects of the theatre, such as lighting, sound and set design.

In Year 13 students become members of our own theatre company 'Theatre In Transit'. This is treated as a authentic company - we hire out a professional venue and perform plays that traditionally might not be performed in school but which are relevant to the course. Past productions include ‘Marat Sade' and Blood Wedding'. Future plans include Theatre in Transit performing on the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
