The A Level specification allows the students to further develop the skills and knowledge that they gain during their GCSE studies.
Although the structure of the course is similar to that of the GCSE the focus of the work is different, providing the students with an opportunity to acquire a greater depth of understanding in the subject.
The coursework modules encourage the students to look more closely at the technology which is a integral part of today's society and to question its uses and future development. Whilst the examined modules look to further extend their knowledge and expertise in key areas of the subject.
Two different options are offered at AS/A2:
Product Design
Comprising of four modules
(1) Advanced Innovation Challenge - assessed practical (50% AS – 25% A2)
(2) Product Study–coursework (50% AS – 25% A2)
(3) Designing, Make, Evaluate-coursework (25% A2)
(4) Product Design – exam (25% A2)
Systems & Control
Comprising of 4 Modules
Unit (1) Written paper – examined (AS 50% - A2 25%)
Unit (2) Coursework Project (AS 50% - A2 25%)
Unit (3) Written paper - examined (A2 25%)
Unit (4) Coursework – project (A2 25%)
