The Fitness Centre

The Fitness Centre

The BMS Fitness Centre is a two floor facility which opened in September 2012. The Fitness Centre includes Life Fitness Cardio Vascular equipment, Watt bikes and a functional training rig, including TRX suspension system. The equipment was chosen to energize the school’s physical education curriculum and creates a dynamic training hub for small groups to train with their own body weight and learn correct lifting techniques.

There is also a dedicated strength area with an Olympic lifting platform; a facility for students to correctly learn the foundation strength lifts and Olympic lifts. This is utilized by our senior teams, especially when their sport requires a high level of physical robustness and resilience.

The Fitness Centre was created with the purpose of allowing a more structured foundation movement programme to complement the sports offered at BMS and to encourage our students to maintain lifelong fitness moving forward with their lives after they leave school.

The Fitness Centre is open to students from Year 7 upwards during lunchtime and after school. All sessions are supervised by the school’s UKSCA accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach. During Year 7, 8 and 9 the students spend a 6 week block in the Fitness Centre learning how to use the equipment safely and effectively and developing their own programme to use during the ‘open’ sessions.

Our Strength and Conditioning Coach leads the programme within PE and Games to provide education with regards to general health, physical literacy and fitness. She also works with the school’s sports teams during squad sessions to develop the physical skills and strength required to perform at a high level of sport whilst remaining injury free.
