Sixth Form Curriculum

At Bedford Modern School we build our timetable around you. We offer a diverse curriculum with 27 different A Level subjects to choose from.

For those who want to extend themselves beyond the confines of the examination specifications, departments also offer a variety of extension activities, visits from guest speakers and numerous trips to deepen your understanding of the curriculum. You will start on four subjects and will be expected to continue with three onto A Level, although some students opt to continue with four.

As you progress into Year 13 you will begin finalising your university or future career aspirations, and begin preparations for the transition to a more independent style of learning.

"‘A high proportion of excellent teaching and pupils’ very positive attitude to their studies indicate a high rate of academic progress. In recent years, almost all Year 13 leavers have proceeded to degree courses, the great majority to their first choice of university.’" Independent Schools Inspectorate 2014

The study centre is a focal point and is staffed by two dedicated Learning Advisors who are there to provide assistance with study skills, UCAS applications and time management. They can also help you to create an individual learning plan should you need one.

Our reputation for academic success is founded on encouraging carefully planned choices of course that suit your abilities and play to your strengths. At A Level we regularly achieve grades in excess of 70% A* – B and this in turn leads to a high percentage of our students achieving their first choice university course.
